CLASSIFICATION OF MAGNETIC MATERIALS
DIAMGNETIC MATERIALS
These materials when placed in a strong magnetic field become weakly magnetized in a direction opposite to that of applied magnetic field.
Examples: Bismuth, Antimony, Gold, Water, Alcohol, Quartz.
PARAMAGNETIC MATERIALS
These materials when placed in a strong magnetic field become weakly magnetized in the direction of applied magnetic field.
Examples: Platinum, Aluminium, Chromium, Manganese.
FERROMAGNETIC MATERIALS
These materials become strongly magnetized when placed in a relatively weak magnetic field in the direction of applied magnetic field.
Examples: Iron, Nickel, Cobalt, Gadolinium.
