Optical communication systems

Optical communication finds its main use in underwater communication. There are different communication systems in this category like free space communication system and undersea optical communication system. Two subdivisions in free space optical communication system are satellite optical communication system and terrestrial atmospheric optical communication system. Satellites are used in satellite optical communication system. With some modifications in the existing design, we can appreciably increase the performance of this technology. A good optical source, faster infrared detector technology and a system to overcome electronic noise problems required in the satellite. Infrared technology has to be employed in terrestrial atmospheric optical communication system. Underwater or undersea communication system is divided into two. They are fiber optic transoceanic optical communication system where submarine fiber optic cable technology is employed and optical communication systems with submerged bodies.
