Genetic code

Genes are made up of proteins. In the process of expressing gene, a sequence of deoxynucleotides in DNA is first recorded into a sequence of ribonucleotides in RNA. Now translation into a sequence of amino acids is carried out to obtain polypeptide of defined length. In bacteria, there is no membrane surrounding the DNA nuceoid. The nucleus is bounded by a membrane in a eukaryote. The gentic code is nothing but the conversion of a nucleotide sequence of mRNA into an amino acid sequence of a polypeptide. This concept gained momentum since 1960. Gene is a combination of some amino acids or nucleotides. There exist twenty amino acids and four nucleotides.
