Some important terms in Geographic Information System

Albedo is the ratio of the amount of electromagnetic energy reflected from the surface to the amount of energy incident on it. Apogee is a point in the elliptical orbit of a terrestrial satellite which is farthest from earth. Ascending node is the point at which a satellite travelling south to north crosses the equator. Bathymetry is the science of measuring and charting the depths of objects under water. Cartogram is a map where geographical areas are distorted in proportion to the value of an attribute. Choropleth is a thematical map. Here areas are either colored or shaded to denote the density of the mapped phenomenon. Conflation is a method to align the features of two geographic data layers. A boundary shared equally by two geographical areas is called conjoint boundary.
